Period Drama confessions

The nuns make their confession :D

~I like Cynthia Kirkpatrick. Although I certainly not agree with everything she does and says, I like her and definitely do not consider her a villain!

~I watched Pride and Prejudice before I read it. (But not with Sense and Sensibility, I can say that!)

~Laurie Laurence from 'Little Women' drives me crazy. I just don't like him! (But still, I think Jo should have ended with him.)

~I used to like Mr Bingley better than Mr Darcy (not anymore!!!) (Wow, I confessed this!)

~I think it's terribly unfair that sixteen-year-old Liesl has to go to bed at the same time as five-year-old Gretl.

~In the 'Little house on the Prairie' my favourite scenes are the ones in the Olesons house.

~The scenes with Mr Holbrook in Cranford bore me a little. Just a little.

~Although I love Marianne Dashwood, I think she should listen to her sisters when they tell her it's going to rain.

~I think Keira Knightley only became an actress because she's so beautiful. Ahem.

~My favourite character in North and South is Fanny Thornton. What! I didn't really say that, did I?

~I think that Barbara Spooner (in Amazing Grace)'s wedding dress is far less pretty than her first two costumes. One would assume that her wedding dress would be her prettiest one.

~I love Lydia Bennet, even though I find her totally annoying. Weird, but it's so.

~Jane Bennet is SO good that it almost goes too far.

~In the first series, Edith was my favourite Crawley sister. (In the second it was Sybil, and now it's Mary:)

~I think it's so strange that most of the Cranford ladies have blondish hair- it should be grey or white, shouldn't it?

~My feelings towards the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice are not at all cordial-- but you know that, and that's not a confession, it's a fact.

~I always cry when the Banks family (Mary Poppins) are a happy family at the end of the movie.

~I love the Fiddler on the Roof, but I hate the ending. Movies should have happy endings.

~I don't like the Narnia movies.

~My favourite Gaskell hero is not Mr Thornton, it's Roger Hamely.

~I don't like the North and South ending. Sorry, people. I want a wedding!!!

~There are more confessions, but I shan't go on, because twould be embarrassing for me, hehe.

Do you have Period Drama confessions to make?

11 comments:

  1. I am watching Wives and Daughters before I read it. (that's probably a first)

I think Roger Hamley is possibly my favorite literary hero now.

I haven't seen North and South

The only Jane Austen drama I've seen is the 1980 P&P

I think the baroness and Uncle Max should get married.

Do you like the Narnia books?

P.S.I love that scene in Sound of Music when the nuns confess

  2. 1. I read Pride and Prejudice before watching the tv series.
    2. I at firs liked Lyida Bennet untill I saw her silly behaviour.
    3. I really like the character of colonel Brandon in S&S and thought Alan Rickman was amazing!
    4. I really like Jo and the *SPOILER* Professor together at the end of the film *SPOILER OVER*
    5. When I was little I thought Christopher Plummer was handsome.
    6. I also cry when Mary Poppins leaves.
    7. I want mary and bert to get together.
    8. The ending of the sound of music is always really tense everytime I watch it although I know the ending.
    9. I liked Mr Bingley more until I saw how sweet mr Darcy became.

  3. I definitely agree with some of these!
    But here are mine:

~I watched ALL of the Jane Austen films before I read the books, except 'Mansfield Park. Mum's a fan, so I grew up with them. I couldn't help seeing them first.

~Jo should definitely have ended up with Laurie! My version of the book ended after Meg got proposed to, but I have always thought that Jo and Laurie definitely belonged together!

~I have never seen 'Little House on the Prairie, but I have read the books so many times I could almost quote the whole thing to you!

    ~Marianne Dashwood annoys me.

    ~I actually like Keira Knightley.

~Barbara's wedding dress had always annoyed me. It should've been nicer.

~I have never really liked Mary. I have always felt a bit sorry for Edith, but in the first series I didn't like her either, as she was very annoying to Mary, and I quite liked Sybil, but at times found her too good. I do, however, really like Rose.

~I love the Narnia films, but the books are a million times better.

~It's not a film, but I don't like the second half of 'What Katy Did', because Katy goes all boring, and I only liked 'What Katy Did at School' because of Rose.

~I have seen 'Anne of Green Gables' once, but I didn't like it very much. The book is way better, and I thought the actress was a terrible Anne.

    ~I don't dislike the 2005 P&P

  4. Some of these are tough confessions, girls! :D But others aren't confessions at all, so I suppose it's just right.

    Ashley,
You SHOULD see the 1995 P&P version. You will LOVE it, because it simply IS the best!
Anyway, I love Roger Hamely as well :-) He's my fourth favourite literary hero, right after Knightley, Matthew and Darcy, which says a lot!
"I think the baroness and Uncle Max should get married." That's a good one! I might think that too :-)
Well, I like the Narnia books better than the movie, but still they aren't my favourite. Animals don't talk, and that's what bothers me- it's too 'unreal.' But I understand why people like it though.

    Evie,
Yours aren't really confessions! You read P&P before you watched it? That's good!
Yes, I want Mary and Bert together as well! Well, maybe- I have to think about that one.
And Christopher Plummer IS handsome- there's nothing bad about that. You're too good Evie :)

    Danielle,
~I have never seen 'Little House on the Prairie, but I have read the books so many times I could almost quote the whole thing to you!
Same here!!! Well, not the whole thing, but paragraphs- yes. :-)
What! You prefer ROSE to SYBIL! How, dear, how? Rose is flirty and boy-crazy and Sybil is sweet, innocent and fun! Of course, you may choose :-)
Yes the book Anne of Green Gables is better than the movie, but I love the movie as well. And I personally thought Megan did a great job.

    Anyway,
Thanks for all the honest confessions, people! I LOVE hearing from you sooo much!

    ~Naomi

  5. I'm sorry for not entirely liking Sybil! I do really like her, but I find her a bit... good. Characters that are really good are unrealistic, and I cannot bear them. Sybil is not unbearable at all, and she is certainly my favourite out of the Crawley sisters! It's funny that I dislike Mary so much, because the other day Mum told me that I was like her. I like Rose because she seems more real to me, even if I don't always approve of what she does. And she doesn't whine act spoilt and selfish ALL THE TIME *ahemMARYahem*
And I suppose the Anne actress did the best she could, but Anne is such a brilliant and vivid character that surely no one could properly act her out! I just didn't find the film fit with the book very well, I don't think it had the right tone.
Sorry! I did enjoy reading your confessions though! :)

  8. Ahahahaha. This amused me muchly. ;-P

I sorta like Cynthia too-- she bothers me immensely, but Molly loves her so I do too.

I watched P&P before I read it. In fact, I still haven't read it. Heh.

I don't like Laurie either! Of course, I don't remember what he was like in the book (Mama read it out loud to us when I was like seven or something), but I think he's really annoying in the movie. *high-fives Naomi*

Wait a minute, wait a minute-- Keira Knightley IS a good actress. She just wasn't that great as Lizzy Bennett, but I maintain that she IS a good actress. But I guess that doesn't mean you aren't right. ;-P

I've always wondered why Barbara's wedding dress was so simple-- I think it was just tradition back then to have a simpler, plainer white wedding dress. It's still pretty, it's just a tad boring compared to her others.

Really, Edith was your favorite? She was so mean and conniving in the first season! Edith has never been my favorite-- Sybil used to be my favorite, but somewhere in the middle of the second season Mary became my favorite.

I've actually never seen the ending of Fiddler on the Roof. I ought to be arrested.

I don't like the Narnia movies either! Yippeeeee!

I like Roger better than Mr. Thornton too, even though he makes me so angry sometimes. I like Mr. Thornton, but he's just so....so...angsty, I guess, if that's a word. There's a red squiggly underneath it, so that must mean it's not.

This was a great idea-- do you mind if I copy it sometime?

    ~Violet

  9. I would probably agree with most of these! I do like the Narnia movies though:-)

  10. Emma,
*high-five Emma* Yay! You agreeeee with meeee on all of them....
    but the Edith one.
Yes, I know- WHY did I like Edith? If I would rewatch it I wouldn't, but I liked her the best then. I knew that she was nice (on the inside) and I pitied her. I like the ones who need pitying.
No dear angsty (there's a red squiggly here too:) is not a really word. Well it is now.
    ~Bosom friend.

    Elizabethany,
Yes, sorry- I'm just not a Narnia fan. Thank you for the comment!

  11. I am so glad I'm not the only Roger Hamley fan. Almost every else I come across likes Mr. Thorton better. I don't know why they don't see Roger's awesomeness!

Leaving me a comment is like walking by my house and dropping a little note in the post-box. I mean, it's really nice of you. So thanks.
