The Christmas proposal in Downton Abbey

It's time for the inkling exploriations! And for this month, it's obviously (OBVIOUSLY) Christmas-themed. (Click here for zee post of Heidi's)

"A Christmastide movie scene."

There are PLENTY of those I love to bits, but the prize always has to go to Matthew Crawley's proposal to Mary Crawley. (Funny how they have the same last name.)  I mean, that SCENE. Can I even start on how priceless it is?!!! It's beyond gorgeous and romantic and snowy and Christmassy. Mary's red silky dress is beautiful, and Matthew's blue eyes are so HAPPY and twinkly... GAH. Best proposal ever in any movie or series history ever. I want a Christmassy proposal one day. (But I think I'll want to wear a coat.)

I LOVE THIS SCENE WAY TOO MUCH. (Everything about it. Matthew's adorable LOOK when Mary says she won't answer unless he kneels down and everything. I LOVE THESE TWO. (And their hug melts my heart. And of course everything looks like a shimmery, perfect Christmas card.)) Gah.

Please, tell me I'm not the only one who's seen that scene about 50 times.

A-very-important-PS: SEVEN MORE DAYS. Christmas, I love you.

  1. Shucks, I can't watch this after all. It's been blocked in my country on copyright grounds. :-(

I love her dress, though! Such a nice Christmas-y color. (Yeah, I know. Christmas is one week away. WHAT EVEN.)

And we going to see Star Wars today!!!! STAR WARS!!!! I'm so happy, I can't even. It's going to be amazing. I can feel it.

    1. Jessica, there were several clips of it on Youtube. Just type in 'Mary and Matthew proposal' or something, and I'm sure you'll find one. PLEASE WATCH IT. :-)

Oh, have fun! I've never seen Star Wars (and to be honest, I think I'd not like it) but I've seen movie posters all around. :-)

    2. I'll try to find it! It does look really cute :)

Yes, we had an AMAZING time. I absolutely loved the movie, and I'm so happy I got to see it. Yeah . . . I don't know if you'd like it . . . there's a lot of violence (I mean, hey, it's STAR WARS ;) ) but the characters are really, really cool. And there's an absolutely ADORABLE romance between Rey and Finn, the two new stars. Seriously. I SHIP THEM SO HARD AND THEY ARE SO CUTE AND GAAAAAAAAAHHHHH. I want more movies of them. Right now. I wish there were some clips of the two of them on YouTube so you could see it too . . . but not yet. (After all, it DID get released only yesterday, haha.)

  3. Eeeeeeeeeee, I've seen the picture on your sidebar before, but not the YouTube and this just looks soooooo sweet and utterly gorgeous!!! :) :) We have to watch how much streaming we do with our internet, but I may just have to make sure to get up super early (when we can do it all right) just to see this scene. (And a completely random note, but I absolutely LOVE soft falling snow. ;D) Eeesh, this just looks so beautiful and romantic. :D

(And oh! I went ahead and added your link to the post. :))

  8. So pretty! I'm not a huge Downton fan, but I've seen enough of it to really dig that scene :-) (But I'm actually really happy my husband didn't propose at Christmas. I told him not to. I want my Christmas to be about Christmas. Just kind of a me thing!)

    1. Yeah true. Christmas should be about Christmas. (Still, a snow proposal sounds adorable. :-D)

  10. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Basically anything Mary & Matthew gives me tingly shivers of happiness, but THIS SCENE is the best of anything. By the way, it doesn't actually happen *on* Christmas -- remember? He proposes after the servant's ball, which is after Christmas. (In fact, isn't it like a year later? I can't remember....a sure sign I need to watch it again!)

It's so beautiful and yet sad in a way (especially as I know what happens to...him...) and THE SNOW....I really wish I could watch Downtown. Maybe someday! :)
